The Narrative Hearts – A Dragon Daughter Conversation

Last week, I had a great conversation with a wonderful person and fellow author, Marie A. Wishert. She interviewed me for her Instagram Live show about Dragon Daughter. We had some issues so I turned it into a podcast type of piece to share. For those who wish to cut straight to it, click here.

From March, just before Marie’s book was released. I had just received it.

For those wanting a bit of a lead in to the chat, feel free to read on. Marie is the author of the book Ignite, which I am in the process of reading now. She and I first connected over Instagram in the midst of the pandemic last year. When I saw her page and noticed she too was being published by Atmosphere Press, I was intrigued. I immediately began digging in to learn more about her and her book. There was one post I saw where she talked about how long it took for her to reach the publication stage, which was something like five or six years. That was about how long it was for me as well. I felt an instant kinship with her.

Months later, I received an email from the Executive Editor at Atmosphere Press informing myself and four others that we had been carefully selected to be each other’s support system if we so choose. This could entail helping to promote and support each other, interviewing one another about the work, sharing tips and tricks we’ve learned, reviewing each other’s books, beginning a writing group together or just keeping in touch as we navigate the challenging path of publication, and life as writers. Guess who was in my group. That’s right, Marie was one of the handful of others on the list. Now, she and I had already exchanged messages months before we were grouped together so there was some familiarity. But, I’d like to think at this stage, now that we’ve finally spoken to one another properly, that this is just the beginning of many more fun and lively conversations. And now, enjoy the chat.
